Let’s face it Uranus isn’t a vacation hot spot. It’s long been the “butt” of bad jokes. It’s been knocked askew and rotates on a slant. Plus, it smells like rotten eggs due to high atmospheric concentrations of methane. Even NASA hasn’t spent many resources studying the planet. The only spacecraft to visit the ice giant was Voyager-II in 1986 which provided to photos above and below. Although Uranus is like a town in which you don’t wish to linger on a trip, it has some interesting road-side attractions, including 27 known moons.  

Because Uranus spis on its side at 98 degrees – possibly the result of a collision with an Earth-sized object long ago, its tilt makes for unique seasons. The planet's north pole experiences 21 years of daytime in during its “summer”; 42 years of day and night in the “spring” and “fall,“ and 21 years of nighttime during “winter.” This brings a whole new depth to the phrase “winter is coming.”
