Location Description: South side of 200 South, east a white home.
Often called Earth’s twin because it’s similar in size and density. Yet, the two have radical differences.
Venus’ Earth-like climate hovers thirty-four miles above its surface. Visualize floating city oases. Its actual surface, however, is not Earth like. If you enjoy tropical vacations, be careful what you wish for. Venus’s surface is a nightmarish inferno, averaging 867 °F. At that temp, lead and tin liquify. Although Mercury is closer to the Sun, Venus clocks in as the hottest planet in our solar system. its high temperatures result from runaway greenhouse gases where 96% of its air is carbon dioxide.
Venus’s surface also features crushing air pressure–more than 90 times that of Earth–similar to being a mile deep in one of Earth’s oceans.
Before you leave Venus, spend a day enjoying its “reverse” sunrise in the west or sunset in the east. Venus has a strange retrograde rotation (opposite of all planets except Uranus). Venus even rotates in a way that makes the same of the planet always faces Earth, like our Moon faces us.
